From 8 to 14 March is celebrated World Glaucoma Week. It is an initiative that originated in the World Glaucoma Association (WGA) in conjunction with the Association of Patients with Glaucoma (WGPA) to raise public awareness about the level of impact that can have serious vision about Glaucoma , becoming the leading cause of blindness in the world.

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a group of diseases that cause gradual damage to the optic nerve. The optic nerve is responsible for sending information from the eye to the brain. As the nerve was affecting the visual field decreased gradually.

What are the risk factors?

● Age (over 60)
● Family history of glaucoma
● High Voltage Eye
● sightedness or myopia
● Other eye diseases
● ocular trauma
● black or Asian

What are the symptoms?

Glaucoma usually progresses without causing symptoms, until the affected visual field is greatly affected. In some cases you may notice:
● Difficulties down stairs, falls usual
● Insecurity in driving, especially at night
● Severe pain and envilliment eye (only in case of an attack of acute glaucoma)

What can I do prevention?

● Revisions eye after 40 years
● Revisions eye every year if there are risk factors
● Control of eye strain, if it is high
● Healthy habits, smoking, varied diet and moderate exercise
